Dear BSU Parents,

Welcome to the 2018/2019 Academic Year!

The British School of Ulaanbaatar “Parent Teacher Association”, known as the  “BSU PTA” for short is open for those who are interested in becoming a member for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

Here is some brief information on the Parent Teacher Association:

What is a Parent Teacher Association (PTA)?

A Parent Teacher Association (PTA), is an organisation of parents and staff. Its role is to encourage closer links between home and school.

PTAs are best known for promoting the school and for their fundraising work, but they have a useful social function too. Fundraising events provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together.

How is the PTA organised?

The BSU PTA’s first meeting was held at the end of August and the second meeting is scheduled to be held early October.

The PTA’s role is to act as Ambassadors for the school and liaise with other parents.

PTAs usually meet on a regular basis and set up smaller working groups to organise individual events.

Some PTAs raise money for the school?

Some PTAs raise money through events, a Christmas Fair in the winter, a Quiz in the spring, and a Summer Fair. Other PTA events include a wide range of activities that promote the good work a school may be doing.

How is money spent?

Funds raised by the PTA are intended to provide ‘additional’ not already provided by the school's main income, these are often 'fun things' that enrich learning and add breadth.

The PTA and the Head of School often agree how to spend PTA funds. Common items include theatre equipment, playground equipment, a school minibus and smaller purchases such as presents for Father Christmas to distribute.

How can I be involved in my PTA?

Some of the roles can be time-consuming, although also rewarding. If you can’t commit to a big job, then all help and support is always welcome.
