Dear Parents / Carers,

We are approaching the end of a great Term 1 and we are excited to share some highlights from this with you.

Dear Parents / Carers,

We are approaching the end of a great Term 1 and we are excited to share some highlights from this with you.

EYFS

We have been very busy this term.  We have all worked hard to get to know our classroom routines and are trying to be more independent.  We have enjoyed spending time with Year 2 and 4, reading and playing together. In preschool we are developing our English that is being delivered by British Qualified Teachers and consolidating our Mongolian through play and activities. Our children loved the annual BSU Sports Day and are very excited to participate in more sporting events this year!  Both Reception classes have particularly enjoyed their swimming lessons with Ms Woodcock. It has been wonderful to see each and every child grow in confidence!

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)

Key Stage 1 enjoyed the start to this school year, explored new topics, engaged with new ideas and most importantly, learned a lot. The children’s positive attitude to learning has been displayed through the significant progress every class has seen. This year, the children have taken charge of their learning and classroom environment, creating stimulating displays which show the many themes covered, as well as decorating their classroom doors for Halloween and Christmas. Key Stage 1 also have had time to socialise and make new friends, the Halloween Party being a great example of this. The class teachers are extremely proud of the collective progress throughout Key Stage 1 and we look forward to another successful, fun filled Term in the New Year.

Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6)

The first term has been a term filled with lots of learning, laughter, and fun. Firstly, at the start of the year, we welcomed all the new Key Stage 2 representatives to the Student Council; the elected representatives have already had a huge impact on our school. One of the events that they were hugely integral to was our Halloween Party, which was a roaring success. We were also very excited to hear from Mrs Tina Terblanche and Lucky Paws on Animal Day and we had lots of fun competing against each other during the Family Sports Morning, which was organised brilliantly by Miss Woodcock. Finally, we have had the joy of watching a variety of drama performances acted brilliantly by the different Key Stage 2 classes and the Drama ECA. Despite the first term soon coming to an end, we still have plenty to look forward to in the next few days and into the new year.

Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 (Years 7-13)

In Secondary this term, we have organised the annual shoebox appeal, led by the Student Leadership Team, collecting over 200 shoeboxes which will be shared between the Veloo Foundation and Bayanzurkh Hospital.

Students from across KS3-5 also took part in the Owlypia competition, which aims to develop the intellectual curiosity of young people. The competition welcomes entries from across the world and BSU had a winner and in KS5, Iveel Tengis, and a runner up in KS3, Udval Erdenebileg. Well done to both students for their amazing achievements which see them going through to Global round.

BSU sports goes from strength to strength with wins in competitions and tournaments such as the under 13 boys futsal team who came first out of 25 schools in the District Championship. The other notable success was the BSU Girls U19s finishing runner up in the UBAC tournament.

Secondary students have also been preparing for the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) conference in Beijing in March 2019. As part of their fundraising efforts, they will be holding a bake sale at this year’s Christmas Concert. This is in addition to the MUN that will take place in our school during the winter break that has been organised by the Mongolian Youth Parliament. BSU will be staging the fourth UBMUN (UB Model United Nations) to be held on the 22nd - 23rd December. Based on a model of the United Nations, the conference will host 150 delegates representing different countries of the world. The delegates will debate world issues such as the impact on the environment of an oil spill and the political crisis in the Middle East through the organisation of six committees all based upon the committees used within the UN itself. The delegates will be looked after by the organising committee, 7 of whom are from BSU.

When we return in January our Year 11 and Sixth Form students will be taking their Mock Examinations in preparation for their iGCSEs and ‘A’ Levels. Many of our students are in the process of making University Applications across the Globe, supported by a dedicated University Counsellor and our British Academic Team. Misheel Ganzorig, a Year 13 student, has secured an interview to study at Oxford University from September 2019. We wish Misheel well and will be sending our regards to her as she jets off to the UK this December, we wish her every success in this endeavour, securing an interview is already an incredible academic achievement given that Oxford University is recognised across the Globe as an elite University where places are highly sought after.
